They have each been carved in what is commonly known as a pineapple motif.\u00a0 Pineapples are traditionally a symbol of friendliness, celebration and hospitality.\u00a0 So coral beads were often given as a Christening present to welcome the newborn.\u00a0 The coral in this necklace came from Naples in Italy. The box clasp is 9ct gold. It was made circa 1820.
