It is typical of the Art Nouveau period with the botanical subject of a flower sprig claw set with old European cut diamonds with small diamonds in the leaves. The background has been enamelled in the Plique-\u00e0-jour technique in an eau de nil colour. Plique-\u00e0-jour (French for &#8220;letting in daylight&#8221;) is a vitreous enamelling technique where the enamel is applied in cells, similar to cloisonn\u00e9, but with no backing so light can shine through the transparent or translucent enamel.
