This is such a pretty heart shaped pendant that was made circa 1900-1910. It has been set with a heart shaped opal surrounded by rose diamonds in silver settings. The reverse is 15ct gold. Heart pendants were so popular in the Edwardian period and went really well with the fashions of the time. Opal is the birthstone for the month of October. It is also the stone given to celebrate the 14th year of marriage. The name opal is thought to be derived from the Sanskrit upala, meaning \u201cprecious stone,\u201d and later the Greek derivative \u201cOpallios,\u201d meaning \u201cto see a change of colour.\u201d The opal in this pendant displays flashes of blue and green with red hints.
