This platinum ring is in pristine condition. It is eminently wearable as it sits low on the finger. It was made circa 1910-1920 and has been set with a beautiful Australian opal surrounded by well matched bright diamonds. The opal is a particularly good specimen and displays a myriad of flashing colours, red, green and blue. When Australian opals appeared on the world market in the 1890\u2019s, the Hungarian mines spread the idea that it was not genuine, probably because gems with such brilliant fire had not been seen before. Australia eventually assumed the mantle of premier opal producer of the world, becoming famous for Lightning Ridge\u2019s colourful and rare black and crystal stones.
