It is a mourning ring. Many were made in the Georgian and Victorian periods and were worn in remembrance of a husband, brother and other members of the family. This example has been set with a carved banded sardonyx to represent a flower and has a small bright little diamond in the centre. The shoulders are repouss\u00e9 work with a scroll motif.
