The distinctive blue of the turquoise reminded the Victorian’s of the forget-me-knot flower, so it follows that the stone’s use in jewellery was intended as a symbol of love and affection. Being a porous stone, it often discolours to a greenish tone over time, but this example defies its age, with each of the three graduated cabochons remaining as bright as the flower it was named after. The distinctive 18ct gold design, with its fluted shoulders and central rose cut diamond border, suggests it dates to around 1880.
