It is typical of the late Georgian period with engraved engine work spiral detail on both sides with a blank area in the middle on one side for a monogram. Around the edge on both sides is repoussee work with leaves and flowers. It also features on the bale. It hinges open to reveal a pierced gold lyre and hinges open again in order to place a scented pad.
