It has a charming gold mount with two hearts incorporated in the design. The painting is highly detailed with hints of her bonnet on the right hand side. The intent was to keep the lover\u2019s identity partially secretive by not revealing the whole face. <\/p>\n<p>Prince Regent, a leader of fashion, reputedly started the trend by commissioning an eye miniature of his mistress Mrs Fitzherbert. Consequently eye miniatures set as jewellery, such as this, became very popular in the late 18th century up until the early decades of the 19th century. It was however a short-lived trend.
