An unusual 18ct gold ring that was assayed in Chester in 1913. It has been set with a large cabochon cut rectangular opal that has an approximate weight of 4.66 carats. It is a gorgeous stone and displays vivid flashes of\u00a0 green and blue with slight red undertones. Around the turn of the 20th century opals were being imported from Australia and became very popular due to their pure colours unlike the Austro Hungarian opals that had been used prior to that.<\/p>\n
