A beautiful 18ct gold mourning ring that was made circa 1830.\u00a0 It has been enamelled in black and has been set with a natural pearl in the centre with eight small diamonds around it.\u00a0 There are further rose diamonds in slanting bands on either side.\u00a0 It has a glazed locket to the reverse which would have been originally intended to hold a lock of hair. The use of pearls in mourning rings was common as they not only represented tears but eternal love. The diamonds also represent eternal love and the black enamel is for mourning.
