This is a stunning 18ct gold Art Nouveau gold brooch that can also be worn as a pendant as it has two loops on the reverse. It is a wonderful flowing design with a spider’s web background in plique a jour enamel. Plique-\u00e0-jour (French for \u201cletting in daylight\u201d) is a vitreous enamelling technique where the enamel is applied in cells, similar to cloisonn\u00e9, but with no backing in the final product, so light can shine through the transparent or translucent enamel. It is in effect a miniature version of stained-glass and is considered to be very challenging technically. It has been set with a marquise shaped Burma ruby above the enamel and graded rose diamonds around the edge and in the stylised buds. There is a natural pearl drop with a small rose diamond above. This brooch is so pretty and in very good condition and was made circa 1900-1910.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
