There is a spirit of adventure in this pretty late Victorian necklace, dating to around 1900. The word harlequin means ‘many coloured’, and finds its origins in the vivacious costume of a character of that name from the 16th century commedia del’arte. <\/em>Invariably, this style of necklace is all about colour. The gold fancy anchor link chain measures 40 cm in length and is suspended with a feast of graduated oval cut graduated gemstones, including colourless rock-crystal quartz, smoky purple spinel, burnt orange and deep red garnets, corn yellow zircon, and pastel blue sapphire.
