A very unusual 15ct gold brooch that was made circa 1910. It appears to represent a comet with different gem stones that have been set on to five knife edged bars. The stones are diamonds, emeralds, zircons, pink tourmalines, a ruby, a peridot and an opal and two natural pearls. There have been many sightings of comets over the years. In 1811 there was a beautiful comet with a tail 100,000,000 miles long. It was called the Great Comet of 1811 and was visible for 17 months in the night sky. The Great January Comet of 1910, often referred to as the Daylight Comet,
\nwas already visible to the naked eye when it was first noticed, and many people independently “discovered” the comet. At its brightest, it outshone the planet Venus, and was possibly the brightest comet of the 20th century So this brooch has taken it’s inspiration from this comet.
