This is a spectacular black opal ring that was made circa 1920. It is platinum and the large claw set black opal that has an approximate weight of 2.36 carats dominates the design. It displays incredible irridesant flashes of red green and blue and is surrounded by claw set diamonds within millgrained settings and an overlapping design on each corner set with further diamonds. Opals all have a \u2018play of colour\u2019\u00a0 but it is shows off much better on a dark background.\u00a0 As a result, black precious opals are deemed more beautiful and are more sought after<\/p>\n
The trifurcated shoulders lighten the feel of the ring\u00a0 and lead on to a ribbed shank. It sits low on the finger so it is a comfortable ring to wear.<\/p>\n
