A large Victorian cross pendant that was made circa 1880. It is composed of four perfectly cut en cabochon pieces of banded onyx. Banded Onyx is a variety of chalcedony from the quartz family, easily identifiable by its distinct bands of black and white. The craftsman who cut these stones cleverly selected and cut them to reveal the white bands around the edges. It is traditionally a stone of protection. The reverse is 18ct gold with an 18ct gold bail. In the centre is a natural split pearl that signifies both purity and tears.<\/p>\n
