An unusually large and striking Art Nouveau locket, set with coloured pastes.
This was probably made in Austria, where a localized form of Art Nouveau was practiced by artists of the Vienna Secession. The secession was a consisted of a group of Austrian artists who had resigned from the Association of Austrian Artists, housed in the Vienna Künstlerhaus. This movement included painters, sculptors, and architects. The first president of the Secession was Gustav Klimt.
