Peridots and diamonds were a very popular combination in the Edwardian period. Sometimes further stones were added that were violet in colour, like amethysts ,almandine garnets, or rubies. When worn this combination sent out a message to fellow members of the Suffrage movement , which campaigned for votes for women.The hidden meaning is:
G=green= peridot = GIVE
W= white = diamond= WOMEN
V= violet = ruby,etc = VOTES
Suffragette jewellery,as it has become known, is very sought after today.
