These earrings were carved circa 1830. They would most probably have been purchased in Naples while on The Grand Tour. They would have been part of a large parure, or suite of coral, which would have comprised a necklace, pair of bracelets and a brooch. Sadly so many sets have been broken up over the years, when pieces were shared out to other members of a family or pieces were lost or broken. They are in the Botanical style which was fashionable in the 1830's.
